Andrew Jackson
War of 1812:
Andrew Jackson never served active duty and never led troops into combat. He had been elected to his posts by political friends. When war broke he gave 2,500 troops to the government. He marched to New Orleans in December 12 with 1,500 troops to inforce the garrison. He became a major general. His army of Tennessee and Kentucky defeated invading British force of 7,500. They were forced to withdraw the region.

Presidency:
He was the seventh president. He was elected in 1828. He saw internal improvements in the pork-barrel politics and was against them. He authorized the Indian Removal Act of 1830. He was reelected in 1832. He free the United States from its debt. He signs the Treaty of New Echota. This allowed him to move the Cherokees into Oklahoma. He gave 2,000 of his supporters government jobs. He also set up a kitchen cabinet of informal advisers.
